Rapper Scryptonite criticized the law criminalizing domestic violence, which was adopted in Kazakhstan after the death of Saltanat Nukenova
Rapper Scryptonite (real name Adil Zhalelov) criticized the law criminalizing domestic violence, which was adopted in Kazakhstan after the death of Saltanat Nukenova at the hands of her husband. He believes that this law could lead to children being taken away from their parents under its pretext, and also “bring the situation to the point of absurdity” - and children will “choose their gender.” He later deleted his post.
“This bill (as I personally understand) is disguised as a law on domestic violence. If you are against [violence against women], then you seem to be for [tightening penalties for violence against children]. Personally, I think that these are two different problems and laws on them must be considered and adopted separately,” the musician wrote.
He noted that women should not be beaten, and children should not be beaten either - but in relation to children, he urged “not to rush from one extreme to another.” “In the case of children, everything is very blurry. If you take it to the point of absurdity, then tomorrow your children will choose their gender. If they are not taken away from you because you not only assaulted, but, so to speak, bullied the child while raising him.” ,” added Scriptonite.
The Ombudsman for Children's Rights of Kazakhstan, Dinara Zakieva, responded to him. She noted on social networks that children were taken from their parents on the basis of another law, and in the new law “there are no changes or additions regarding the removal of children, restrictions or deprivation of the rights of parents.” She added that she contacted Scryptonite representatives and they confirmed that they had published fake information.
Earlier, amid a high-profile case, rapper Jah Khalib was criticized for an old podcast: in it, he discussed women who, with their appearance, can provoke criminals to sexual violence.
The law signed by the President of Kazakhstan on April 15 introduces criminal liability for beatings and intentional infliction of minor harm to health, and also tightens liability for intentional infliction of medium and grave harm to health. In addition, the new law excludes the possibility of reconciliation of the parties when it comes to cases involving physical violence and cruel treatment of minors. In addition, reconciliation will not be possible in cases of repeated commission of actions provided for in articles on beatings and causing minor harm to health. The new law introduces criminal liability for incitement to suicide and inducement to suicide with a penalty of imprisonment.
