“I was afraid that I would be branded a brawler.” Bette Midler regrets not suing Lindsay Lohan
Bette Midler appeared as a guest on David Duchovny's Fail Better podcast and, in a conversation with the actor, admitted that she regrets one of her past omissions - namely, that in 2000 she did not sue 13-year-old Lindsay Lohan.
At that time, the premiere of Midler's original, partly biographical sitcom entitled “Betty” took place. The actress called the project as a whole unsuccessful for several reasons, and she considers Lindsay’s action to be one of these reasons. The fact is that Lohan played the daughter of the main character in the pilot episode, and then for some reason refused to continue filming.
“After the pilot, Lindsay decided she wasn't going to act anymore. Maybe she had other projects on her mind. So she just left, and I thought, “Well, what should I do now?” Midler recalls.
At that time, Lindsay already had work in the successful film “The Parent Trap,” and in 2003 and 2004 she would star in even bigger hits “Freaky Friday” and “Mean Girls.”
Bette, however, blames not only Lohan for the whole situation, but also herself for her inability to defend her interests. “I didn’t understand how things were and I didn’t understand how the hierarchy worked, and no one bothered to tell me. I was kicked to the curb and I didn't know what to do about it. I didn’t know that I could take responsibility and insist. I was very afraid that I would be labeled a brawler.”
It is noteworthy that in early May, Lindsay published on social networks a joint photo with Midler, taken during the filming of “Betty,” and wrote how happy she was to work with her. Bette did not respond to her post at the time.
Let's remember that Lindsay Lohan became a mother for the first time last year. The actress and her husband Bader Shammas had a son, who was named Luai.
