A US university has stripped P Diddy of his honorary degree and will return his $1 million donation over a video of the rapper beating his ex-girlfriend
Howard University, one of the oldest universities in the United States with a predominantly black student body, has stripped Sean Combs (P Diddy) of an honorary degree due to a recently posted online video of the rapper beating his ex-girlfriend, singer Cassie Ventura.
Information about this appeared on the university website. In an official statement, the higher education institution said that the decision was made unanimously by the board of trustees. Removing the honorary degree awarded to the rapper in 2014 also denies him all the benefits associated with the award. The board ordered Combs' name removed from all documents listing recipients of honorary degrees from the university. In addition, the musician will be refunded a $1 million donation he made to fund the scholarship program.
“Mr. Combs' behavior captured in the recently released video is so fundamentally inconsistent with the core values and beliefs of Howard University that he is no longer considered worthy to bear the institution's highest honor,” university officials said.
Recall that P. Diddy is accused of pimping, sexualized violence, solicitation of prostitution, as well as distribution of illegal substances and firearms. The musician's homes in the United States were recently searched. The video featured in the article depicts an incident that occurred in 2016 at a Los Angeles hotel and is described in a lawsuit that Cassie filed against her ex-lover last year. Ventura subsequently agreed to sign a settlement agreement with Combs.
After the video of Cassie being beaten went viral, P Diddy recorded a video apology.
