Madonna's old interview in which she calls her fans "unattractive, fat and pimply" is being discussed online
An old interview with 66-year-old Madonna is being discussed online, in which the singer makes unflattering comments about her fans. In a 1991 interview, she described her fans as "overweight girls and guys" who have "lots of pimples" and who "bother her."
25 years after its publication, the singer's conversation with journalists went viral.
"I don't mind when people come up to me in a restaurant and say, 'Oh my God, I think you're gorgeous. I love that.' They're obsessives," she told the Washington Post.
"It's just crazy... and it's always fat people. It's the most unattractive outcasts of society, really fat girls or guys with a lot of acne who follow me around and bother me. It's scary because not only do they bother me, but they're also ugly to look at."
Madonna's fans were shocked by her words. "How sweet. They buy your music, but disgust you because they are not "made" according to Hollywood parameters?", "Criticism of other people's appearance came back to haunt her. She was always unique, but she was never beautiful", "Old interview or new, Madonna's attitude towards fans has always been terrible", "I think she has no friends at all".
Some, however, tried to support Madonna. "It was a different time. It was still possible to have an imperfect opinion."
The singer herself is now often attacked for her appearance. People believe that she strives to look younger at her age (and to act accordingly), and they believe that this does not lead to the best results. She often posts very revealing photos on her Instagram*. Madonna has been accused of plastic surgery more than once, and it was even suspected that it was because of the consequences of surgical interventions that she ended up in the hospital last summer. Her figure was also criticized: fans wrote that she goes under the knife to "attract the attention of 20-year-old guys."
