The Met Gala 2025 theme has become famous
Vogue magazine has announced the theme of the annual Met Gala Costume Institute 2025 — Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. It will be dedicated to men's fashion, the style of black dandies and their influence on political sentiments, covering the period from the 18th century to the present day. The ball and the opening of the exhibition will traditionally take place on the first Monday of May — May 5 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
The theme is inspired by Monica Miller's book, "Slaves of Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Style Identities of the Black Diaspora." In it, the author, who will also curate the exhibition, explores diasporic identity among the black population. Miller, a professor and chair of Africana Studies at Barnard College, Columbia University, will examine the figure of the black dandy from his earliest depictions in art to his contemporary images on the catwalk and in film.
The evening will be co-hosted by Pharrell Williams, A$AP Rocky, race car driver Lewis Hamilton, and actor and screenwriter Colman Domingo. The day before, they met with Anna Wintour at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for a press conference dedicated to one of the most anticipated fashion events of the year.
This is the first exhibition at the Costume Institute since 2003 (the theme was "Men in Skirts") devoted exclusively to menswear.
This year the theme of the ball was "The Garden of Time".
