Nicolas Sarkozy has refused to eat prison food because he fears he will be poisoned.

Nicolas Sarkozy, 70, who is serving a five-year prison sentence, does not eat prison food, Le Point reports.
The former French president, convicted in a case involving funding his 2007 election campaign, has refused to eat in prison for fear of being poisoned. According to a source, Sarkozy believes other prisoners are hostile to him, so he refuses all prepared food. The former president fears that someone might spit in his plate or slip something into his food.
By the same token, Nicolas refuses the only other way to eat in prison—buying groceries from the prison commissary and cooking for himself—because he doesn't know how. "He doesn't know how to boil eggs! Besides, he refuses it on principle," said a source close to Nicolas.
More than two weeks have passed since Sarkozy's incarceration in La Santé prison, where his entire family accompanied him, and during this time, Nicolas has been subsisting exclusively on yogurt. It's unclear what this diet will lead to or how Sarkozy plans to address the food issue.
As a reminder, Nicolas Sarkozy became the first former French president (who ruled from 2007 to 2012) to receive a prison sentence. In September of this year, he was found guilty of conspiracy in a case involving the illegal receipt of funds for his election campaign from the late Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi. He was sentenced to five years in solitary confinement in France's oldest prison, known for its harsh conditions.
Since 2008, Nicolas Sarkozy has been married to supermodel Carla Bruni, now 57. The couple have a 13-year-old daughter, Julia. Carla also has an adult son, Aurélien, and Nicolas has three sons from previous wives.
