Nelly Furtado made her first public appearance since retiring amid criticism of her figure.

Nelly Furtado, who announced her retirement from the stage last fall amid criticism of her figure, walked the red carpet for the first time since. The 47-year-old singer attended the 2026 Juno Awards ceremony in her native Canada.
Furtado appeared at the event in a red and black low-cut dress by Canadian designer Lesley Hampton and a new bob haircut. At the same ceremony, the singer was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.
In October 2025, Nelly Furtado, who had taken a lengthy hiatus from performing until her return in 2024, announced her decision to retire permanently. She explained her decision by her desire to focus on her family.
However, the artist's fans suspected that she might have refused to appear on stage due to the frequent criticism of her figure online recently. This was especially true after her performances at the Suikerrock and Boardmasters festivals in August of that year, when Nelly's photos went viral online and the singer received a lot of hate. However, she herself has made it clear that she is not ashamed of her appearance. On her social media, Nelly posts photos in swimsuits and miniskirts and declares that she has reached a "new level of self-love."
Furtado is a Canadian singer of Portuguese descent. She is known for hits such as "I'm Like a Bird," "Say It Right," and "Promiscuous" (the latter featuring Timbaland). She has a 22-year-old daughter, Nevis, with musician Jasper Gahania. The couple dated for about four years but split for good in 2005. She was married for eight years to Cuban sound engineer Demacio Castellonaia, whom she divorced in the summer of 2016.
