Anna Wintour and Meryl Streep are distant relatives.

76-year-old Meryl Streep, who played Miranda Priestly in "The Devil Wears Prada," and former Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, the inspiration for the character, are distantly related, Entertainment Weekly reports.
It turns out that Meryl Streep and Anna Wintour, born less than six months apart in 1949, share common ancestors—Thomas Smith and Elizabeth Kinsey, who lived in 18th-century Pennsylvania. This makes the stars sixth cousins. This conclusion was reached by Ancestry specialists after studying historical documents and the family trees of Streep and Wintour. The same source reports that Meryl Streep reacted to the news with irony: "Well, now everything falls into place. As our ancestors would say, I'm thrilled!"
It's ironic that Lauren Weisberger, the author of the novel "The Devil Wears Prada," which was made into a film in 2006, grew up just 30 kilometers from where their common ancestors once lived.
Let's remember that 76-year-old Anna Wintour left her post as editor-in-chief of American Vogue in June 2025, having worked there for 37 years, but remained in the holding company in other positions.
Remarkably, the news of the relationship broke ahead of the premiere of the sequel, "The Devil Wears Prada 2," which takes place on May 1st—20 years after the original. Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci return to their roles in the film, while newcomers include Justin Theroux, Lady Gaga, and Kenneth Branagh. At the 2026 Oscars, Wintour even appeared on stage with Hathaway to recreate a scene from the iconic film.
